I’m in High School Rodeo and I did pole bending with my horse. I usually got around 30 seconds, but I never placed. The winners usually got about 21-22 seconds. My horses specialty was goat tying, not speed events.

I know very little about pole bending, but I would just like to point out that your link is a link to a picture of a hair style, not a video of pole bending. Have fun and happy riding!

    That’s not a video…
Anyway, 50 is pretty slow. They usually run in the 20′s. Pros will run in the teens.

My times in the pole bending event are between 20-25 seconds depending on the size of the arena, and dirt. The deeper the dirt ussually the slower the time (not by much).
You have to work with your horse practicing on the poles, lead changes in between the poles, and on the sharp turns (flexibility).

First of all, unlike barrel patterns, pole patterns never change. The poles are always 21 feet apart, and the distance from the timer to the first pole never changes in ANY arena. An average pole bending time is 21-23 seconds. The best run 19′s, and I have on one occasion (which was at the NHSRF) I have seen an 18 ran. It seems to vary from year to year as to what time will place you, depending on how tough the competition is that year. The last year I went to nationals you had to run at least one 19 sec run to place in the top ten, and the other two had to be low 20s. Two years ago a 21 would have brought you back to the short go and placed you.

    I agree 100% with Randi M. Here is a good pole run…
