Some Thoughts from Alan B re: wordpress installations

Wonderful!
I generally do the same thing to start, then jump into Photoshop and mock up the areas of the site. I like what you’re doing with the moveable clippings too though, very smart!
Take a look at some of the themes offered by the woothemes.com team too. You might be able to take something there and repurpose it, instead of redesigning from the ground up.
I find Jumpchart http://www.jumpchart.com to be invaluable as a place to collect the pages and text I’d like to use in an editable, linkable wireframe.
I’ll second the woothemes.com recommendation and there is definitely a lot to be said for using Thesis. You’ll want to customize it out of the box though as the default is VERY popular.
I’m not a blogger, so it’s interesting to see the thoughts around themes, etc. My comments were going to be in a totally different vein. I’d think about the reader as the first starting point in a re-design. What do they want to be able to see/do from your blog? Find past articles, find links to things you recommend reading, post a comment from your blog to their page, see what others are saying, etc. Sort of a "customer experience" approach. Identify the touchpoints with your customer (be it an advertiser, reader, other blogger… whoever you think your customers are), and design it so it’s easy for them to do business with you (so to speak). That will inform a lot of the design.
Thanks for these suggestions. I really like the thesis theme, but stepping back to really think through the information design.
very nice post
keep it up
